M.D. Shawket Alkhayal

Dr Alkhayal is a renowned urology doctor in Dubai with advanced experience in sexual dysfunction, male infertility and Andrology in addition to his high level of skills in kidney and prostate surgery and disorders. Dr Alkhayal is a UK Board certified urologist with more than 22 years of experience. He graduated from Baghdad University College of Medicine. After graduation he left for the United Kingdom after his internship where he had further training, experience and higher qualifications. He obtained his Master’s Degree in Urology from UCL in 2004 and Fellowship of the Royal college of Surgeons in Urology in 2008. He was a lecturer at Sussex University Medical School, UK. Also an Honorary Consultant at Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals and head of Urology Department at Benenden Hospital in Kent. He is a member of the European Association of Urology, the Society of Sexual Medicine and of the International Continence Society.

I have gained broad experience in Urology and Andrology which I have accumulated over more than 15 years of work in the United Kingdom. I provide general Urology and specialist Andrology services. My work especially at Brighton and Sussex university hospitals provided me with great exposure to various aspects of urological management, having the pleasure of working with 5 consultants, with different surgical interests. I have constantly improved my practice through active learning and attendance at courses and conferences.

I gained an MSc in Urology from the institute of Urology in London that broadened my knowledge and research capabilities.

  1. Re audit of complications following Trans-rectal Ultrasound Biopsy of the Prostate, which was done to re-evaluate change of practice and any associated complications. Reinforced our current practice in antibiotic prophylaxis and patient management to avoid complications.
  1. The use of NMP22 bladder cancer check, in haematuria clinic. Personally supervised and analysed the data collected by my registrar in the department. Results showed low sensitivity of the test in our practice which unjustified its use as a diagnostic tool.
  1. Audit of outcome of a combination treatment of ESWT and SOMA vacuum device, for patients with Peyronie’s disease, Nov 2009. I audited my practice in treating Peyronie’s disease patients with a combination treatment and which I presented at the ESSM conference in Lyon, France and at our departmental audit meeting.
  1. 2009, I designed questionnaire and supervised an audit of Trans-rectal Ultrasound and Biopsy of The Prostate. Audit of methods and complications, for patients investigated between Feb. And August 2009 at the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton.
  1. Organised and supervised an audit of management of patients diagnosed with epididymo-orchitis at the accident and emergency department, the Royal Sussex County Hospital, presented at our departmental audit meeting, Aug. 2009 and resulted in the formulation of protocol and change of practice.
  1. 2008, conducted an audit of treatment outcomes for the management of post Radical Prostatectomy Erectile Dysfunction, which I personally manage post operatively, presented at our Urology department audit day, 13 Jan.2009.
